Substitutions for ingredients
* Salt substitutes include low-sodium salts, sea salt, or you may want to leave salt out completely if it is an added ingredient.
* Substitutes for dairy items include goats milk, powdered milk, or one of the lactose-free milks available on today's market, be sure to check the sodium content of these ingredients.
* Some consider corn to be difficult for a dog to digest, try substituting another flour for this. Rice flour, for instance, is extremely easy for a dog to digest.
* Bouillons have a high salt content, try substituting meat juice from one of your meals. Another substitute can be made by putting small amounts of cooked meat in a blender and adding enough water to liquify (be sure to refrigerate these treats).

Liver Treats:
All you need are beef livers. Try your local meat packers; they often throw them away. Or you can buy fresh liver from the supermarket.
Cut the liver into approximately 1 inch slices. Place in your food dehydrator for 24 hours*.
Use Pam or the equivalent on the drying racks, so the liver won't stick. Let dry for 24 hours.
*Or you could place them on a cookie sheet and bake in a 325 degree oven for about 45 minutes to help dry them out.
